Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a house fire in Co Louth.
Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire at a house in Rathmullen Park, Drogheda at 5.10am this morning.
Extensive damage was caused to the exterior and interior of the house. A technical examination is currently being conducted at the scene.
A person wearing dark clothing was seen running from the area at the time of the incident.
An incident room has been established at Drogheda Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Rathmullen Park between 4.30am and 6am, who may have seen any suspicious activity to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
They are also appealing for anyone involved in milk deliveries, bin collections, and similar early morning occupations who may have been working in the area to come forward.
Fred says: Gardai are in numbers in Drogheda town, yet people can burn down a house at free will? Down the years in Ireland the ordinary people were the eyes and ears for the Gardai. There was a mutual type of trust and respect and local villains were always caught because of the phone call from the ordinary aware people to the local stations. All this has changed now, as Yeats said so well “A terrible Mistrust has been born”…. words changed as appropriate to now. Sadly now we have the Gardai involved in scandal after scandal, stitching people up with false charges, involved in crime themselves, snorting coke in public, and others who are out there not even caught yet. Today I say there are thousands of honest hard working decent Gardai and these men put their lives on the line every day they put on their uniform. These Gardai deserve more also but they have to be supported by the ranks when they come forward and give the truth in relation to Rogue Officers, as they see it. Maurice McCabe may be gone now but he left a legacy of common decency, integrity and courage, never to lie down under the winds of abuse of power, threats to family, and false heinous allegations against himself. I believe that the Commissioner will weed out the Rogues in every station across this country and regain the Trust of the people and then Gangland, Drug Dealers and the facilitators will be beaten and Drogheda and its people will live in Peace without Fear and Intimidation once again.
