Two women have been forced into hiding after a sinister threat to burn their faces with acid.

The intended targets are girlfriends of senior players in a gangland feud in Drogheda, Co Louth.

They have fled the town as gangsters made the threats on social media in recent days.

The horrifying warning is the latest in the violent feud that has seen shootings and dozens of attacks on homes.

A source said: “Such is the tension between the groups that family members are also targets and there have been attacks on homes of people on the periphery of the feud.

“These women were threatened and immediately went into hiding – gardai are closely monitoring social media and are keeping an eye on the tensions.
