The Ceann Comhairle has said that he is seeking a report for his “urgent attention” on the conduct of Dáil votes. It comes after Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley admitted he was absent from the Dáil chamber when his vote was recorded six times last Thursday.
The Clare deputy said he went into the Dáil when the voting bell sounded but he then left to take a phone call.
“I understand from Niall Collins, that under the mistaken belief that I was at the back of the chamber on the phone, he pressed my voting button. I have spoken to the Ceann Comhairle today, to explain what happened and apologise for the misunderstanding,” Mr Dooley said this afternoon.
Niall Collins confirmed this afternoon that what Timmy Dooley said in his statement was correct.
In a statement, Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl said that the integrity of the voting system in the Dáil is of the “utmost importance”.
He said: “Further to media reports on votes in the Dáil last Thursday 17 October 2019, I have asked the Clerk of the Dáil to prepare a report on the conduct of the votes for my urgent attention.”
Earlier, Fine Gael TD Noel Rock described as “very worrying” the notion that any TD could be recorded as voting while absent from the chamber.
He said one of the most important jobs a TD has is to vote on legislation in the Dáil.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan called for the Oireachtas Committee on Procedure and Privileges to investigate the incident.
He also called for last Thursday’s Dáil votes to be re-taken, due to what he described as the “disgraceful behaviour of Fianna Fáil TDs who brought the integrity of the votes and that of the Dáil into disrepute”.
After reading the above what can one say? I am not doing a witch hunt today. As the Ceann Comhairle said the integrity of the Dail is of the utmost importance, and anyone in breach of it, must face the consequences. Timmy Dooley will bluff his way out of this one with the help of Brainless Collins, the man who believes, he is the next Taoiseach – a legend in his own mind. Collins to put it another way is a Giant among Leprechauns and he will back up his friend and FF side kick. In the meantime, the FF party seem to be at war from within. This morning on the front page of the Mail on Sunday, Deputy Niamh Smyth has accused the FF party (her party) of bullying, intimidation and downright abuse of power and she is trying to find out why is she the target? FF always accuse Sinn Fein of bullying tactics. Well this story has put Micheal Martin’s party in mid-air and it is facing yet another crisis which will have to be addressed before the election, which is not too far away now. We have a National Scandal at the moment concerning homelessness. A five year old child eating on a Dublin Street, in the cold, with local volunteers looking on in tears and yet the politicians, on all sides, in Dail Eireann, don’t give a fiddler’s fuck as long as their own families and children are well dressed and attend their elite private schools.
Micheal Martin, privately, is a decent human being, but politically he is like a one legged duck in the middle of a fox hunt. FG have had their fair share also, with SwingGate and Deputy Farrell withdrawing his insurance claim, after hard questions were asked. The calibre of politicians in the Dail now, if it goes any lower, we will be at ground zero in relation to morality, ethics, and lack of compassion to our homeless people.
SOURCES TELL ME THAT TWO ENGLISH NEWSPAPERS IN THE COMING MONTHS ARE GOING TO NAME IRISH POLITICIANS IN KILDARE STREET WHO HAVE MISTRESSES. WE CANNOT NAME THEM FOR LEGAL REASONS AT THE MOMENT BUT I DO KNOW IT IS GOING TO MAKE THE EARTH SHATTER WITH THE NAMES THAT ARE APPEARING. ONE JOURNALIST SAID THEY ARE ALSO GOING TO DIG DEEP TO FIND OUT ARE THESE RANDY GOATS GETTING EXPENSES FOR VIAGRA, JUMBO CONDOMS, AND LINGERIE. There is a lot more to be revealed here.
It is time the Irish people, not forgetting the poor wives indoors, find out what these Romeo’s are up to when scoring goals away from home. We have a national crisis of homelessness; we have people dying on the streets from cold, hunger and some sadly being targeted and murdered and yet the Dail continues as if it is one big Gravy Train. Take Take Take is the motto. Parish pump politics will never go away in this country. The land of equality – well a five year old child, eating off a cold pavement says it all. Fred
