Kearney never once showed any Remorse? He put a family through Hell, and now this Bastard is a qualified Counsellor, trained by the Samartians? Kearney could get Access eventually to Vulnerable women? Prison Management should explain this as a matter of Urgency? Families deserve Respect, not Contempt?

Family of murder victims to march outside Government Buildings in protest at killers’ day release

A statement issued by Sentencing And Victim Equality said it is calling on members of the public to stand behind them and turn out in force next week.

The loved ones of murder victims will march outside Government Buildings in protest at killers being allowed out on day release.

Among those taking a stand next Wednesday voicing at the event are the family of mum-of-two Siobhan McLaughlin.

The 38-year-old was strangled with a vacuum cleaner cord by her husband Brian Kearney who was jailed in 2008.

The family slammed the parole board for granting him day release.

Pictures also emerged this week of arsonist Frank McCann, who is serving a life sentence for murdering his wife and niece, making his way from Arbour Hill jail in Dublin city centre to a course at Ballyfermot Training Centre.

A statement issued by Sentencing And Victim Equality said it is calling on members of the public to stand behind them and turn out in force next week.

They said: “We in SAVE are putting out a call for your support.

The time has come for action, we need all our members to join us next Wednesday morning outside Government Buildings to protest the many recent day releases of some of the most dangerous murderers this country has known.

“Our message is clear – we the families of the victims of homicide are outraged, hurt and fearful about the recent spate of day releases of some of the most dangerous murderers this country has known.

“Does the State not realise how traumatic this is for victims families.

It seems we don’t matter, our feelings our views and our needs are not important.

Meanwhile, wife killer Kearney might have to wait months for a taste of freedom even if he is given the go ahead for day release.

It emerged this week the parole board has recommended the 61-year-old sicko should be considered for neutral venue visits with his family.

Despite Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan having the final decision, the Irish Mirror has learned that even if given the green light, Kearney could have to wait for a suitable venue to be found. A source said the twisted killer will also be accompanied at all times.

They added: “At the end of the day, despite the parole board recommending Kearney get neutral venue family visits, it’s up to the Minister for Justice.

“If he gives the go-ahead it will take a while to come up with a suitable venue for this to take place. That could take months.

“It’s normally done through the chaplain in the jail. It will most likely then take place in a Dublin convent hall.

“They are driven to and from the venue too.

“It’s likely he will only get one maybe two visits this year.”

A wife killer is listening to fellow inmates’ problems and offering them advice as a jail counsellor, the Irish Sunday Mirror has learned.

Brian Kearney, 62, who throttled and garrotted Siobhan McLaughlin with the flex of a vacuum cleaner, is currently serving a life sentence at Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison.

Kearney has taken full advantage of courses on offer at the jail, including Leaving Cert Spanish and First Aid.

He also underwent specialised training with The Samaritans for his role as a prison “listener”.

The killer, along with any other inmate who takes the course to become jail counsellors, are identified by their green T-shirt with the word “listener” on it.

A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror that Kearney likes to keep busy and this is one of his main roles at the prison.

The source said: “Before the schools closed in the jail with lockdown he was there pretty much every day.

“He learnt Spanish a few years ago to Leaving Cert level and also first aid.

“His latest role is as what is called a listener in the prison. Inmates who have problems, are lonely or who just want someone to talk to can go to him.

“He can talk to inmates who need him during the day or night. If a prisoner requires him during the night a warder can take him from his cell and bring him to see them.

“It’s a strange role for him as many describe him as being a bit odd. It’s not a role you would imagine him being in.”

Kearney, who is deemed a model prisoner, is not the only killer to have taken on the role of ‘listener’, we can reveal.

Fellow wife killer Joe O’Reilly also used to counsel inmates when he was based at Dublin’s Arbour Hill.

Mum-of-one Siobhan was found dead on February 28, 2006, and it later emerged Kearney killed her because she intended to leave him.

He was given a life sentence in 2008.

Last year Kearney was refused parole but the board suggested he be considered for neutral venue visits with his family.

Siobhan’s family hit out at the decision and said they fear they will bump into him if he is allowed out on day release.

Her sister Brighid McLaughlin said at the time: “I’m in a situation now where I have to have my head over my shoulders ready to meet him again at any place, at any time.”
