Nurses, frontline workers and bereaved families expressed outrage and disgust at the Taoiseach over the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner.
A sample of the emails sent to Micheál Martin in the days after news of the Clifden dinner emerged show the scale of public anger. The infamous event sparked a wave of resignations, including agriculture minister Dara Calleary and EU Commissioner Phil Hogan.
On the evening the story broke – August 20 – a nurse in a residential care facility for elderly citizens told Mr Martin they were very upset. “I feel it is unfair to the many, many people who have sacrificed and lost so much in the last six months,” they wrote.
