She later phoned her friend from a public phonebox to tell her she was hitching a lift from Moone, Co Kildare, to her home in Callan, Co Kilkenny.
This is the last time that her friends or family heard from her. It is believed that when she was phoning her friend, a car stopped for her.

This was set up by former Garda Commissioner Pat Byrne in 1998 to investigate the cases of six young women who disappeared from the Leinster area over a five-year period.
Taking to Facebook in November 2019, Ms Bergin shared a number of pictures of her sister as she implored anyone with information to come forward.
She wrote: ‘Can you see her? She is 5’4” in height, medium build with dark shoulder-length hair. She zips up her black jacket and puts her black rucksack on her back, and proceeds to look for another way home. Can you see her?’
