15,000 counterfeit products with estimated value of €300,000 seized in Dublin raid

Gardaí seized in the region of 15,000 counterfeit products thought to have a street value of €300,000 in a search operation in Dublin yesterday.

The raid on a business premises in a business park in Oak Close, Dublin 12, is believed to be the largest seizure of counterfeit property masquerading as a particular brand worldwide this year.

Counterfeit products seized include earphones, USB plugs, phone chargers and game console controllers along with a vast amount of branded packaging was seized.

Hard drives and other electronic devices including mobile phones were also seized, along with relevant documentation.

There were also about 10,000 items of packaging bearing particular brand names seized.

While nobody has been arrested in connection with the major haul as of yet, Gardaí did search a private residence of a suspect in Dublin 3 yesterday and anticipate arrests will be made following an intensive assessment of all seized goods.

The operation assigned codename Bannister, was established for the purpose of targeting criminal activity associated with the suspected sale of counterfeit electronic products of inferior quality.

The raid was coordinated by The Intellectual Property (IP) Crime Unit within the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI).

The GNBCI and other Bureaus within Organised & Serious Crime, including the Garda National Immigration Bureau, the Garda Dog Unit and personnel attached to the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) conducted the searches.

Gardaí say statements have been taken from key witnesses and say there may be further searches in relation to the operation while the investigation remains ongoing
