Gardai observed National Slowdown Day between 7am and 7pm on Friday, checking the speeds of more than 185,000 vehicles over a 24-hour period.

Those caught speeding included one motorist travelling on the M7 in Naas, Co Kildare, at 188km/hr in a 120km/hr zone.
Another driver was caught travelling at 161km/hr in a 100km/hr zone in Co Roscommon while a third was apprehended driving at 162km/hr in a 100km/hr zone in Co Limerick.
In addition, Gardai stopped a car on the N11 in Wicklow on Friday. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged. He appeared before Bray District Court on Saturday morning.
A number of houses were also searched in the Dún Laoghaire and Brittas Bay areas of Co Dublin and Co Wicklow, yielding a small quantity of cocaine and ecstasy.
