The father of an innocent man murdered by the Kinahan cartel has told how he once contemplated suicide when he heard of his son’s death.

Dublin City Council worker Trevor O’Neill (41) was on holiday with his wife and children in Majorca when bungling Kinahan hitman Glen Clarke killed him – in a shocking case of mistaken identity on August 17, 2016, the Irish Star reports.

Trevor’s callous murder is a stark reminder of the pain inflicted by the ruthless Kinahan cartel – hell-bent on exacting revenge on the Hutch mob – no matter the cost.

And speaking from his home in Crumlin, Co Dublin on Tuesday, a devastated Vincent O’Neill spoke of his unimaginable heartache on the day he learned of his son’s murder.

“When I heard that news first, I got up the next morning and, I was basically talking to Trevor, I said ‘Trevor I’m going with you.’

“I was that much from taking my own life. He was too good. The man was too good,” he told the Irish Star.

Innocent Trevor was out walking with his partner Suzanne and their three young children, when a hitman, who gardai now believe is since deceased dumb crim Glen Clarke, shot him dead in front of them.

The hitman mistook Trevor for Jonathan Hutch, who he was ordered to murder by the Kinahan cartel.

And speaking to this paper ahead of the fifth anniversary of the Regency Hotel attack, which sparked a series of murders that included his own son, Trevor’s father had a few choice words for those responsible.

“I’m not interested in them. They’re very dangerous people, they’re dirty people, you know what I mean?”

“They’re scum, they are.

The heartbroken father, who held up a picture of Trevor with his children, said he’d never get over the pain of losing his son.

“He was an inspector in the corporation. He was a beautiful bloke. Lord have mercy on him.

“All he was into was his family, his children.

“That’s all I can say to you. I will never get over it.

“Every minute of the day I feel it. It was brutal.

“I loved him very dear. I said it to the police up here, they didn’t take one life here, they’re after taking two.

“They’re after taking me with him.”

He added that it hurts that his son had no involvement in crime, and yet became a victim in a bloody feud with warring drug factions on both sides.

“A completely innocent man, knows nothing about nothing, not drugs or nothing .

“His kids do be asking where’s my Daddy.

“He was one of the greatest human beings.

They’re a beautiful family, it’s just terrible. It’s shameful,” he said.

Vincent added that he’d like people to “say a prayer” for his son, as gardai continue to crack down on the gang responsible for his murder.

Trevor was sadly just one of 18 victims in a bitter feud that began when the Kinahans murdered Gary Hutch in Milaflores, Spain in September 2015.

Innocent homeless man Martin O’Rourke (24) also became an innocent victim- gunned down in Dublin’s Sherriff Street in April 2016.

Gardai again believe that Glen Clarke, who accidentally killed himself with a shot to the head in December 2016, was the hitman that shot Martin as he chased his fleeing target.

Gardai believe the tensions that sparked the deadly feud continue today, and both sides are capable of striking back.

But gardai have been hugely successful in dismantling much of the criminal enterprise that carried out the killings – following the unprecedented Regency Hotel murder in February 2016.

Many of the Kinahan cartel’s top criminals have been jailed, with mob boss Daniel Kinahan now holed up in Dubai.
