Learner driver stopped for being on phone tests positive for cocaine

A learner driver who was stopped by Gardai for using a phone while driving is facing court after testing positive for being under the influence of cocaine.a police car parked on the side of a road© Provided by Extra.ie

The driver was stopped by Gardai on the M1 in Dundalk after Gardai spotted the use of a mobile phone.

Officers checked the driver’s credentials and discovered that they were operating the car on a learners’ permit, had no full licence driver to accompany them and had no L-plates displayed on the car.a police car parked on the side of a road: A learner driver who was stopped by Gardai for using a phone while driving is facing court after testing positive for being under the influence of cocaine. A roadside drug test was subsequently carried out and it was established that the driver was under the influence of cocaine.

A Garda spokesperson said: ‘Dundalk Roads Policing on patrol on the M1 observed the driver of this vehicle on mobile phone.

‘Driver tested positive for cocaine and was subsequently arrested. Driver was driving on a learner permit, unaccompanied and not displaying L-plates. Proceedings to follow.’
