The disappearance and murder of 33-year-old marketing executive Sarah Everard has shaken members of the public across the UK and Ireland, after the young woman’s remains were discovered in a Kent woodland one week after she went missing while walking home from a friend’s house in Clapham, London.

A 48-year-old police officer named Wayne Couzens has been charged with Ms Everard’s abduction and murder, and the London Metropolitan Police have been criticised more generally for their treatment of women who gathered at Clapham Common on Saturday to commemorate the deceased.a woman smiling for the camera: A London police officer has been removed from duty for allegedly sharing an ‘inappropriate graphic’ relating to Sarah Everard. One officer guarding the woodland site at which Ms Everard’s remains were discovered has been removed from duty after sharing ‘graphic’ material related to the case with his colleagues on WhatsApp.

London Metropolitan Police have launched an internal inquiry into the incident, after the officer was reported by senior colleagues.

On Monday night, the force released a statement explaining: ‘On Friday, March 12, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was made aware of an inappropriate graphic that was allegedly shared via social media by a probationary MPS police constable with some colleagues.a group of people holding a sign: The London Metropolitan Police have been criticised more generally for their treatment of women who gathered at Clapham Common on Saturday to commemorate the deceased. ‘The sharing of the graphic was reported by a number of these officers who were concerned by its content.’

The statement continued: ‘Given the context of the police officer’s duties at the time, a voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in relation to this matter.
