Paedophile John McClean set to be transferred from high-security prison to cushy jail in coming weeks
Serial paedophile John McClean is expected to be transferred from the high-security Midlands Prison to cushy Arbour Hill in the coming weeks.
Sources say the 76-year-old is being moved to the open jail in Dublin ahead of his Covid-19 vaccine once his age group is cleared for the jab.
Former rugby coach McClean is serving eight years for the horrific abuse of 23 boys at Terenure College in the city over a 17-year period.
However, a source has told the Irish Sunday Mirror how the OAP sicko is likely to be relocated to Arbour Hill jail where the vast majority of its inmates are elderly.
It is believed the move will happen in coming weeks and McClean will join other high-profile inmates including killer Frank McCann who murdered his wife and foster daughter and David Lawlor who raped and brutally murdered civil servant Marilyn Rynn.
It is also understood Arbour Hill will be used as a primary jail to vaccinate elderly inmates when a date is set by the HSE.
A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “McClean is currently at the Midlands Prison in Co Laois. Following his sentencing he spent 14 days in isolation.
“There’s a far more relaxed regime there. It’s primarily down to their age and the fact they are seen as less physically dangerous.
“The level of trouble among prisoners doesn’t exist in the jail, it’s more like a nursing home with all the old inmates.
“Many of those at the prison are deemed as elderly or with underlying conditions and therefore will require the Covid vaccine when it becomes available. It would make sense for anyone in that age bracket to be housed in the same prison too.”
McClean, once an English teacher at Terenure College, systematically abused young pupils there from 1973 to 1990.
