GUN ATTACK Gardai probe if man (20s) facing serious charges was target of ‘reckless’ shooting
The suspected target was recently released from prison after he had been remanded in custody for a short period of time for breaching his bail conditions.
Gardai are working on the theory that the target of the shooting is a local man aged in his early 20s who is on bail and is facing serious charges before the courts.
Detectives are probing reports that this young man had been involved in a fight in the south inner city which involved a number of males earlier on Tuesday afternoon.
They believe this may be linked to the “reckless” shooting in which three shots from a handgun were discharged at least three people were standing in the garden of the property at Margaret Kennedy Road, Dublin 8.
The suspected target was recently released from prison after he had been remanded in custody for a short period of time for breaching his bail conditions after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He is very well known to gardai and considered “a very violent young man.”
“There are a number of young up-and-coming criminals operating in the south inner city who are causing gardai major concern. They are volatile and violent,” a senior source said.
The suspected target of the gun attack is very friendly with a teenager who was convicted of the manslaughter of tragic Lorcan O’Reilly (21) who was stabbed to death at the Oliver Bond flats in Dublin during the early hours of November 1, 2015.
“A serious concern with a reckless gun attack like what happened in broad daylight on Tuesday evening is that innocent people can be killed,” the source said.
“In this case shots were fired indiscriminately and one of the bullets even ended up in the door of the house,” the source added.
There have been no arrests in the case which is being probed by Kevin Street gardai.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses.
“Gardaí are investigating the discharge of a firearm which occurred on Margaret Kennedy Road, Dublin 8 yesterday evening, Tuesday, 13th April 2021, at approximately 5:05pm,” a garda spokesman said.
