Eric Feigl-Ding @DrEricDing · Co-infection is bad news—Scientists in Brazil have identified two cases where people were simultaneously infected with two different variants of #COVID19. Co-infection raises the likelihood of *recombination* admixture that generates more variants.ttps://

Fred cannot emphasise enough just how important it is for people to remain engaged and learn about COVID-19 on a daily basis because this is about variants and mutations and this time around science is adapting to research not over decades but in REAL TIME.  We can all contribute.

15) Outbreak—47 positive #COVID19 of a 188 seat Vistara flight from New Delhi to Hong Kong have tested positive, after all tested negative 72 hours prior. The scariest thing? Only 8 detected before began quarantine. 39 only identified later during hotel quarantine, 22 at day 12!

14) Also good time to remind people that vaccines WORK, but for mild/asymptomatic transmission, they are not always perfect, as NZ ministry of health noted. here is a table of many vaccines and asymptomatic efficacy.

Do vaccines lower transmission? YES, absolutely. How much? By a lot—75% to 94% in recent studies. Do vaccines completely eliminate any and all transmission? NO. That is why we still need to mask after vaccinating until cases are very low or zero. #COVID19 (HT @MonicaGandhi9) Show this thread

13) VENTILATION is key. Both ventilation and masks needed to reduce risk indoors. But most buildings not ventilated well enough. Airplanes usually good filtration but not when airplane is on the ground after passengers disembarked.
