PROSECUTORS have been given more time to prepare their case against a landlord accused of threatening a former tenant he would “get a gun and put a bullet in his head”.

Niall Cloke (49) is accused of telling an ex-tenant he would pay €5,000 to get him shot, when the man asked for his deposit back.

Mr Cloke, of Wheatfield Grove, Clondalkin, Dublin, is charged with threatening to kill or cause serious harm to the man at an unknown location on November 11, 2019. A judge previously ruled the case was too serious to be dealt with at district court level.

When the accused came back before Blanchardstown District Court, Garda Sergeant Maria Callaghan said the DPP consented to Mr Cloke being returned for trial.

Judge Gerard Jones remanded him on continuing bail to next month, for the preparation of a book of evidence.

Previously, the court heard the alleged victim told gardaí in December 2019 that his former landlord threatened him during a phone conversation when they discussed the return of a deposit.

It was alleged the accused “threatened to get a gun and put a bullet in his head”, the court heard.

Mr Cloke told the former tenant he would “pay a sum of €5,000 to get him shot and that the injured party would return to Romania either walking or in a box”, it was alleged.

The man said the verbal threat had a profound effect on him and “he believed the accused would do these things to him.
