Just a Question, with no Malice of Thought, the 14,000 Gardai, must feel Undermined at present, that Former RUC Commander Drew, and Heather, a Staunch Free Presbyterian, have Total Control over their Lives? Beggars Belief, as one Senior Garda informed me. Cannot Imagine a Paddy and a Mary running the Police Service in the Wee North of Eire?

Acting Minister for Justice, Heather Humphreys said that she supports Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in random drug testing within the force.

Random drug testing of Garda members has been raised in recent days following reports made to the force’s anti-corruption unit.

It’s understood that the unit had received complaints related to alleged criminal infiltration within Gardai as well as alleged drug use among members.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) voiced concern over talks of drug testing its members without a reason.

Antoinette Cunningham from the AGSI told RTE Radio 1’s Morning Ireland on Wednesday that the association was not against drug testing within the force.

She said there had been no mention of drug testing all members randomly and that it was originally discussed that 5% of the force would undergo ‘with cause’ testing.a man wearing a hat: Random drug testing of Garda members has been raised in recent days following reports made to the force’s anti-corruption unit. Gardai have since clarified that Garda Substance Misuse Policy includes provision for random drug tests without cause or warning.

Despite reservations about testing without cause, acting Minister for Justice, Heather Humphreys said that she supports the Garda Commissioner.

She told Newstalk Breakfast: ‘Can I just say that I certainly support the Commissioner in his efforts regarding drug testing.Heather Humphreys smiling for the camera: She told Newstalk Breakfast: ‘Can I just say that I certainly support the Commissioner in his efforts regarding drug testing. ‘We have to bring in legislation to do this and we will be bringing legislation through the Oireachtas and through the Dail and that will give us an opportunity to tease out the issues that are being raised.

‘We can further consider the points that people are making at that stage, so I’m happy to hear their views, but as I said I do support the Comissioner’s efforts to do this.’
