Ian Bailey ‘flattered’ as he strikes up ‘connection’ with woman who once married ghost of a pirate
EXCLUSIVE – Amanda Large, who once made headlines for her unusual marriage to a 300 year old Haitian pirate, speaks to Bailey ‘almost every day’ and admits she’s ‘interested’ in him.
Ian Bailey has struck up a ‘connection’ with a woman who once married the ghost of a pirate – and is “flattered” that she’s interested in him.
Amanda Large, who once made headlines around the world for her extremely unusual marriage, says she’s struck up a “deep” connection with Bailey and speaks to him “almost every day.”
And speaking to The Star, the Drogheda native, who also uses the stagename ‘Alisa Rose’ in her role as a publicist, admitted she has her eye on Bailey – who was the prime suspect in the now infamous murder of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier in West Cork in 1996.
“I’m interested in him as a person, yeah. For me sexual attraction is to do with a connection and not necessarily to do with other things so hence I’m very picky,” she said.
“But we have struck up a connection.”
Asked if she has struck up anything more than just friendship with the poet, Ms Large said –
“I don’t want to comment on that at the minute.
But when pointed out that she was leaving that open to interpretation she said –
“I guess it is. I definitely identify with him and I definitely do feel a connection there.
“We’ve been speaking with one another almost every day for the past two weeks.
“I don’t want to use the word intimate but we have talked about how we feel about things; things you don’t just talk to anybody about.
“We’ve talked on a deeper level, we’ll say.”
Meanwhile Mr Bailey confirmed to The Star that he has been in regular contact with Ms Large – but he hesitated to call it a friendship, and said if it was anything more than that, he wouldn’t be telling anyway.
“Well we’re in communication. Well you know friendship, no not well, no I dunno, no we’re in communication.
“Not every day, but every two or three days. That’s my recollection,” he said.
“She contacted me through social media. I don’t think I’d heard of her before. I know she’d worked with Linda Martin.
“Anyway she contacted me and she told me she was, shall we say, sympathetic to my situation, and she has organised an online petition called Justice for Sophie and Ian.
We put it to Ian that Ms Large expressed that she was “interested” in him and that she felt a connection between them to which he said he is flattered.
“Do you know what, I don’t know anything about that, but that would be a private matter.
“If it is true what you’ve told me (about the connection she feels), I would be flattered.”
But Bailey added that if there were anything more than friendship between him and Ms Large, he wouldn’t be sharing it.
“Some things would be in the private closet as it were. That’s my learned opinion,” he said.
Asked about the fact that Ms Large was once married to the ghost of a Haitian pirate named Jack he laughed and said:
“Do you know, I don’t know anything about a Haitian pirate.”
Recently Bailey told The Star he was getting a lot of attention from “big bosomed” female admirers – and Ms Large believes she’s one of them.
“Ian has talked about his big bosomed followers and supporters so yeah I’ve had quite a few tweets about you know talk about integrity with your breasts hanging out.
“Yeah I have big bosoms and I am a supporter of his so technically he’s not wrong. It’s not the way I’d describe myself but the thing that strikes me about Ian Bailey is Ian doesn’t have a filter.
“So I don’t really take offence to that because I don’t have a filter either.”
Asked if she’d go on a date with Bailey, Ms Large said –
“I don’t know, he hasn’t asked. It’s been 12 years since I’ve been in a relationship with a man.
But she said she would have no problem meeting up with Bailey, who she has spoken to on a regular basis over the last two weeks.
“People said to me,” Would you be afraid of him, would you meet him alone. Absolutely 100 percent I would have no problem in meeting him alone.
“In actual fact I have a Shih Tzu that I’m more afraid of!
Ms Large contacted Bailey on social media after seeing the Jim Sheridan documentary ‘Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie,’ – and she says she wanted to offer her help in clearing his name.
Bailey was convicted in absentia of the murder in France – and Sophie’s son remains steadfast in his belief that the Schull resident murdered his mother.
Ms Large says she believes Bailey is innocent of the murder of Ms Toscan Du Plantier, and believes he was targeted for being different.
And she says that led to her now close connection with Bailey – that she feels has the potential to turn into something more.
“We have a connection. We’re kind of chatting and you know what’s going to happen in the future and where it will or won’t go, I can’t answer that honestly.
“I would say we’re at the point we’ve made a connection and that doesn’t happen very often with me.”
Ms Large previously made headlines in 2018 when she told the world she was marrying the ghost of a 300 year old pirate.
Dramatic pictures emerged of Ms Large, who legally changed her name at the time to Amanda Sparrow Teague, heading to the sea, where she was married to ‘Jack’ by a Shaman.
She previously claimed that she and ghost Jack went on dates, had rows and even had an active sex life.
“Spiritual sex is all about being able to feel the energy. It’s nothing to do with masturbation.
“So although it can be tried from any position, missionary is probably best to start with because it’s easier to feel their weight and take it from there.”
Her bizarre story made headlines across the world – with Ms Large even appearing on popular ITV chat show ‘Loose Women.’
Initially the pair were completely in love – but Ms Large claims the ghost eventually drew all her energy and made her seriously ill, and forced her to realise it was over.
Speaking about the infamous relationship now, Ms Large says she has moved away from mediumship and spirituality, and has put that chapter of her life behind her.
She also says some of the hate she got for it led her to empathise with Ian Bailey.
“I spent a long time trying to move away from that and move on. I guess that’s kind of why I can understand where Ian is coming from – because I got a lot of hate over that.
“People have talked about his behaviour and called him crazy.
“I personally have distanced myself to it now. I don’t have anything to do with spirituality or mediumship now.
“There are certain things that did happen that I can’t really explain,” she added.
