People would need to understand, that this Case is not about Someone’s Ego? It is about the Unsolved Murder of a French Lady decades ago?

The former journalist emerged as the main suspect following the murder of Mrs Toscan du Plantier in Schull, west Cork in December, 1996.

A huge investigation into Mrs Toscan du Plantier’s death focussed on Mr Bailey, although the probe never resulted in a charge against him at any stage.Ian Bailey sitting at a table with a cup of coffee: Ian Bailey has made a huge claim about the status of who he theorises is Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s killer. Mr Bailey has maintained his innocence and has repeatedly rubbished any suggestion that he was involved in Mrs Toscan du Plantier’s death.

Having been involved in the case for over 25 years, though, he has a theory about an unnamed person who he believes was the killer.

The case was thrust into the headlines following the release of Sky and Netflix documentaries about the French woman’s death.Death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier smiling for the camera: The former journalist emerged as the main suspect following the murder of Mrs Toscan du Plantier in Schull, west Cork in December, 1996. Her son Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud has also been speaking about the case, most recently on The Late Late Show last Friday.

Before giving his theory, Mr Bailey said he was sorry to see Mr Baudy-Vignaud going through the pain of his mum’s death, but Mr Bailey maintained that he wasn’t involved.

Newstalk reports that Mr Bailey believes that the person who was actually responsible for Mrs Toscan du Plantier’s death is now dead.Ian Bailey wearing a suit and tie walking down the street: Before giving his theory, Mr Bailey said he was sorry to see Mr Baudy-Vignaud going through the pain of his mum’s death, but Mr Bailey maintained that he wasn’t involved. Mr Bailey said: ‘Somebody in Ireland knows that it wasn’t me – I don’t know if anybody does know who it was, I suspect there are people who do know who it was.

‘Is the killer still alive? I keep seeing this reference, the fact that the killer I think – if my own theory is correct, and I can’t say too much about it – the murderer is dead and has quite a long time ago passed away.Mr Bailey has maintained his innocence and has repeatedly rubbished any suggestion that he was involved in Mrs Toscan du Plantier’s death. I don’t absolutely 100% know… my belief is that the murderer is probably dead – but that’s a belief, I can’t prove that.’

Mr Bailey has called for Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to order a review of the case and said that he wrote to the Commissioner three times to express that desire.
