Sky have denied that they were involved in recent talks with alleged mob boss Daniel Kinahan after promoter Eddie Hearn claimed that Kinahan had been in discussions with Sky Sports.
The Matchroom Boxing chief told IFL TV that Kinahan had been helping arrange fights for a number of boxers with the broadcaster.
However, a Sky statement issued to the Irish Mirror claiming that talks with Kinahan never took place.
It read: “These claims are untrue. As a broadcaster, we are continuing to work only through our promoters to secure fights to air on television“.
Matchroom are no longer involved with Sky, signing a five-year deal with online streaming service DAZN after their contract ended.
It comes after a BBC Panorama documentary claimed that Dubai-based Kinahan was still advising fighters managed by MTK despite the boxing management company co-founded by the Dubliner saying they had cut ties with him.
Kinahan has been named in the courts here as the leader of an international organised crime cartel involved in drugs and gun smuggling.
When asked about Hughie Fury [cousin of Tyson], Savannah Marshall and Lewis Ritson, who are no longer managed by Matchroom and are involved on a BOXXER fight card in October 16 broadcasted by Sky Sports, Hearn revealed that Kinahan was involved in talks.
Hearn said, “Lewis [Ritson] I think is doing one fight with BOXXER.
“Those three in particular [are] managed by MTK, and I think their advisor Daniel [Kinahan] spoke to us and Sky – and basically, this was a massive opportunity for them.”
