MacSharry proves to be the icing on the Sinn Féin cake, the party that is always going to make hay when the opportunity arise

The timing of the exit of perennial Fianna Fáil maverick Marc MacSharry has been just been the icing on this Shinner cake. The mishandling of the non-appointment of a former minister, Katherine Zappone, to a relatively minor job has been a coalition lose and lose again for the last eight weeks.
The Sinn Féin no-confidence gambit was to be the final sign-off that might even offer a small claw-back benefit of soildarity to the embattled Coalition. But there was always a guaranteed Sinn Féin success to drive Fianna Fáil – still its main foe – as close as possible to Fine Gael, which is merely a useful adversary.
