Having never been charged with anything in connection to the death of the French producer, Ian Bailey has proclaimed his innocence at every available opportunity.

The English journalist has appeared before the courts, on television, in a podcast and more recently on documentaries, by both Sky & Netflix, in an attempt to clear his name.Ian Bailey wearing a blue shirt: The prime suspect in the Sophie Toscan Du Plantier murder has said the ‘Autumn’ is turning ‘into the most blessed winter’ this year. The recent documentaries, which came on the back of the podcast West Cork, have seen many people re-examine the case, and there are many who feel there are a number of questions to be answered before Mr Bailey is thrown to the gallows.

The writer and poet has also recently joined twitter, moved out of his former parnter Jules Thomas’ house following a break up and has now built up an online following.

Among those following him online are a number of interested females, according to the man himself, but also Amanda Large, who started a petition to seek ‘justice for Ian Bailey.’a close up of a person who is smiling at the camera: French woman Sophie Toscan Du Plantier was murdered in her Cork holiday home back in December of 1996 and remains unsolved. © Picture: JOHN COGILL (CREDIT PHOTOGRAPHER )© Provided by Extra.ie French woman Sophie Toscan Du Plantier was murdered in her Cork holiday home back in December of 1996 and remains unsolved. © Picture: JOHN COGILL (CREDIT PHOTOGRAPHER )

Ms Large’s petition has been so popular that she has gathered ‘30,000 supporters’ and has submitted the petition to ‘AGSs Head Mr Drew Harris’, calling on him to take ‘an unbiased cold case review’ of the murder of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier.

The French woman was murdered in her Cork holiday home back in December of 1996 and the case remains unsolved.

And while Mr Bailey was convicted in abstentia via a French court, he still walks free in Ireland and sees this latest twist as a good sign

He took to twitter to tell his followers: ‘So as the Autumn turns into the most blessed winter I would like to take the opportunity to thank Ms Amanda Large, publicist a big thank for gathering just short of 30,000 supporters calling for justice and calling on AGSs Head Mr Drew Harris have an unbiased cold case review IKBO.’

Time will tell if the petition will have any impact of Mr Harris as Gardai have recently said the case remains open.
