Mr Bailey said: ‘I’ve been doing performance poetry for a very long time, but since Covid happened that went to a complete stop. My friend in Glasgow came up with the idea of doing a virtual reading of my collections.

‘It’s going to be a real-time performance for friends and guests, which will be filmed and streamed online.

‘I’m not going to discuss anything about the Sophie Toscan du Plantier case.

‘However, my works are all about my personal observation of the world and include what happened to me in 2019. It will give people the chance to see me in a different guise,’ he continued.Describing it as a ‘nice Christmas present’, members of the public can buy tickets for ‘Ian Bailey Live: An Evening of Poetry & Stories’ for €5. In 2019, he was convicted in his absence by a French court of Ms Toscan du Plantier’s murder, however, repeated attempts by France to extradite him have failed.

Last year, the High Court decided that Mr Bailey could not be surrendered to France to serve out his sentence.

He explained that he is still considering taking legal action against Netflix over the three-part crime series, which he describes as ‘defamatory’.

‘The Netflix documentary which aired this summer was disgraceful and full of propaganda, lies, and defamation against me,’ he said.Ian Bailey sitting at a table using a laptop: Last year, the High Court decided that Mr Bailey could not be surrendered to France to serve out his sentence. ‘If I do decide to take action I’ll probably be dead or penniless before the whole thing is over,’ he added.

Mr Bailey has been a suspect in Ms Toscan du Plantier’s death for decades.

She was found savagely beaten to death in a lane beside her house in West Cork on December 23, 1996.
