A woman has been seriously injured after being stabbed in an attack near her home in Cork this afternoon.
The woman, aged in her 50s, is believed to have been stabbed while walking her dog in Banteer, North Cork.
Emergency services rushed the woman to hospital where her injuries are thought to be very serious.
Armed gardai and other units were involved in a man hunt for the attacker, who is known to the victim.
A man, also in his 50s, has since been found with self-inflicted wounds and been arrested.
A garda spokesperson said: “The scene is preserved for examination. Gardaí are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident. Enquires are ongoing. Owing to the nature of the incident no further information is available at this time.”
