A top garda in Galway has warned that there is a serious risk of someone getting seriously injured or losing their lives after the most recent incident involving two feuding families.

Two cars were burned out in the driveway of a house in Newcastle, Co Galway on Sunday, December 19.

A number of adults who were in the house were evacuated after the cars which were parked in the driveway were set on fire at around 3.30am.

Galway Fire Brigade units, as well as a number of Garda patrol cars, rushed to the scene and managed to get everyone out although the front of the house was damaged.

Head of Crime with Galway gardaí, Detective Superintendent, Shane Cummins, described the latest incident as reckless and warned that such actions could end up causing serious injury or lead to the loss of life.

“We are putting a lot of resources in trying to bring those responsible for these incidents before the courts,” he told the Connaught Tribune.

“The longer this goes on the more serious the risk is of someone getting seriously injured or losing their lives.”

According to the Tribune, a number of groups have been trying to broker a peace deal to end a series of tit-for-tat reprisal incidents between the two families in the past number of weeks that involved the burning and ramming of vehicles.
