A man charged with the murder of teenager Keane Mulready-Woods has been transferred from a Dublin jail following a night of vandalism behind bars.

Paul Crosby was one of several inmates allegedly involved in damaging cells on the C-landing of Mountjoy Prison.

During the disturbances, doors and televisions were damaged, while it is understood human faeces was also thrown on to the landing.

No injuries to prison staff were reported and the incident was later safely contained by authorities.

Sources said Crosby (26) was one of the alleged ringleaders of the incident.

Another prisoner believed to have led the disorder was Blanchardstown criminal Michael Jones (28), who is serving a sentence for dangerous driving causing death.

Clondalkin man James Walsh (37), who was jailed over a Kinahan cartel weapons seizure in 2017, is also suspected of being involved in the unrest.

All three have since been removed from Mountjoy and were recently transferred to the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.

“There are suspicions that Crosby and Jones were involved in this disturbance, and they have been moved out along with Walsh to stop any more trouble from happening,” a source told the Irish Independent.

“TVs were thrown around and cell doors were damaged,” the source said, adding that bags of faeces were thrown by some inmates. Thankfully, no staff were injured.”

Within days of the incident, the men were transferred to the Midlands Prison, and it is understood there have been no similar outbreaks of vandalism from prisoners since.

When contacted, a spokesman for the Irish Prison Service (IPS) said it does not comment on individual prisoner cases.

Crosby is awaiting trial before the Special Criminal Court after being charged with the murder of 17-year-old Mulready-Woods. The teenager was reported missing in January 2019 and his remains were discovered in different parts of Dublin days later.

Crosby, of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda, Co Louth, is also serving a sentence for arson imposed by Drogheda Circuit Court in 2020.

He was initially jailed for four-and-a-half years, but last May the Court of Appeal reduced the sentenced to three years. His alleged accomplice in the prison unrest, Jones, was handed a five-year jail term in 2019 after being convicted of dangerous driving causing death.

Walsh, from Wheatfield Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin is serving an eight-year sentence over a massive firearms seizure linked to the Kinahan cartel at Greenogue Business Park in January 2017.
