Light of my life’ — Sinead O’Connor announces tragic passing of 17-year-old son Shane

Sinead O’Connor has mourned the loss of her ‘beautiful son’ Shane after gardai confirmed they had located the body of the missing teenager in Bray, Co Wicklow.
The singer, 55, described her 17-year-old son as ‘the very light of [her] life’ and asked that he may ‘rest in peace’ following his tragic passing.

‘May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.’
In an earlier tweet, she dedicated a Bob Marley song to her son and wrote: ‘This is for my Shaney. The light of my life. The lamp of my soul. My blue-eye baby.

In a statement issued on Saturday morning, a Garda spokesperson confirmed the recovery of Shane’s body and stood down the missing person appeal started following his disappearance.
‘Following the recovery of a body in the Bray area of Wicklow on Friday, January 7, 2022, a Missing Person Appeal in respect of Shane O’Connor, 17 years, has been stood down,’ they said.
Shane went missing from his home in Newbridge, Co Kildare on Thursday and was last seen that morning in Tallaght, Dublin 24, with gardai saying at the time that they were concerned for his welfare.
