‘I love you’ — Steven Seagal’s bizarre message to Putin at Moscow birthday party
14th April 2022
Hollywood actor Steven Seagal has expressed his ‘love’ for Vladimir Putin at a bizarre 70th birthday party held in his honour in Moscow.
The actor, best known for his roles in 1990s action movies such as Under Siege, attended a dinner in his honour at a Moscow restaurant to celebrate his 70th birthday.
Some of Putin’s allies were reportedly at the dinner, including editor-in-chief of RT Margarita Simonyan and Russian state TV host Vladimir Soleviev, both of whom have been placed under EU sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.© Provided by Extra.ie Pic: Twitter
Video circulating on social media shows the Hollywood star giving a speech at the April 10 function and telling the assembled guests, some of whom are on the EU sanctioned list, he will ‘stand with them through thick and thin’.
Mr Seagal, who was given Russian citizenship in 2017 and previously called Putin ‘one of the greatest world leaders, if not the greatest world leader, alive today’ said in a video on Twitter that the people in the room were ‘my family and friends.’
He added in English with the aid of a translator ‘I love all of you and we stand together, through thick and through thin.’

‘Most of us have friends and family in Russia and Ukraine,’ he said. ‘I look at both as one family and really believe it is an outside entity spending huge sums of money on propaganda to provoke the two countries to be at odds with each other.
‘My prayers are that both countries will come to a positive, peaceful resolution where we can live and thrive together in peace.’
Mr Seagal was appointed by Russia as a special envoy between Russia and the US, with the Russian Foreign Ministry saying his responsibility would be to ‘facilitate relations between Russia and the United States in the humanitarian field, including co-operation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges.’© Provided by Extra.ie Mr Seagal previously said that he views Russia and Ukraine as a ‘big family.’ Pic: Jeff Bottari/Getty
Elsewhere, Russian President Vladimir Putin defended his country’s ‘noble’ invasion of Ukraine and added that peace talks between the two nations has reached a dead end.
