Gardaí search Co Cavan home of former billionaire Sean Quinn

 20th April 2022

THE CO CAVAN home of former billionaire Sean Quinn was searched by a number of Garda officers earlier today.

It’s understood the search began at about 11am and concluded this afternoon. Around five vehicles, including marked Garda vehicles, attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the force said in a statement that the search was conducted by gardaí based in the Cavan/ Monaghan Garda Division who are carrying out an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged criminal activity in Cavan and the wider border region.

The statement said they executed a search warrant “issued by a District Court Judge under the Section 10 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1997, at a domestic residence in County Cavan”.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” the statement added.

“As this is an ongoing Criminal Investigation An Garda Síochána is not making any further comment.”

Speaking to BBC News Northern Ireland Quinn said officers had told him the home was being raided because of “coercion, deception, harassment – stuff like that”.

“So I asked them who was I harassing, this that and the other and they said: ‘Look we can’t tell you that. We just have to do our investigation but that’s what we’re here for.’

“They never mentioned anything about criminality. Unless harassment is criminality, they never mentioned anything like that at all.”

According to the BBC’s report he said he told the officers it was just a “fishing expedition” because they couldn’t tell him why they were there.

“So they said we’ll do the investigation and report back. So they took my phone, they took my diary and they took big boxes of stuff and went off with it.”
