TAOISEACH Micheal Martin has demanded an apology from Mad Vlad’s TV station after they aired a clip showing how Ireland and the UK could be wiped out by a Russian nuclear missile.

Over the weekend, the Russian State broadcaster aired a segment which showed presenter Dmitry Kiselyov discussing how Russia could attack the UK and Ireland with an underwater nuclear torpedo.

Speaking on his way into Cabinet to discuss Ireland’s reaction to the Russian threat, Taoiseach Micheal Martin claimed Ireland will not be intimidated by the “sinister” threat.

He said: “It is very sinister intimidatory type tactics by the Russian Federation but I don’t think anyone is going to be intimidated by it.

“I think it reflects a mindset that is worrying and not in touch with reality. I think there should be an apology forthcoming in relation to that.

“But the more fundamental point, I think, is that Russia should cease their hostilities in Ukraine.

Russian TV star Dmitry Kiselyov is considered a close ally of Russia’s dictator Vladimir Putin and has been dubbed “Putin’s mouthpiece.”

The video was seen as an open threat to the UK not to get involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The clip sparked fury in the Irish Government with people calling for the Russian Ambassador to Ireland to be hauled into the Department of Foreign Affairs to answer for the sick video.

Earlier, Eamon Ryan slammed the TV footage as “shocking” and “unacceptable”.

He said: “I’m sure our diplomats in Moscow and our Department of Foreign Affairs here will be making that known.

“It’s replicated right across Europe where people are looking on thinking, what will happen next?

“There’s a lot of concerns that May 9, which is victory day celebrating the end of World War II in eastern Europe, that that could be a point to mobilisation or a further stepping up of the war mongering.

“I think that’s a risk to us, that’s a risk to every other European country – and beyond.

“What’s happening in this war is putting up food prices and energy prices, that also hits the poorest countries in the world. It isn’t just bombs that kill people, it will be famine.”

Ryan continued: “One of the arguments is whether we should or not retain our embassy in Moscow.

“I’ve always said it is better to retain it.”
