Did a notorious crime gang from a run-down part of Dublin’s north inner city manage to compromise criminal investigations into its activities by corrupting members of An Garda Siochana? Did they pass on information about rivals to “friendly” detectives to deflect attention from their own criminal activities? And did corrupt officers shield them from prosecution in return?

The murky relationship between the Hutch gang and a small number of gardai is the subject of an investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the force’s anti-corruption unit, which mounts internal inquiries similar to those popularised in the BBC drama Line of Duty.
