Opium in Afghanistan; local addiction to opium and methamphetamines which are traded most often illegally all over the world. What have US and Russia in Common? They both failed in their endeavours to control Afghanistan (supposedly rich in mineral resources like lithium). The Taliban are firmly in control again. War fatigue causes the West to forget the awful plight of the ordinary people; and of course the addiction to opium that makes their poverty more entrenched.
