Dealer attempted to swallow his drugs
1st July 2022
A MAN caught selling drugs “out of financial desperation” in Dublin city centre tried to swallow three deals of heroin when gardaí stopped him.
Eric Kenny (26) was jailed for four months when he appeared in Dublin District Court. Kenny, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of the drug with intent to sell or supply.
The court heard gardaí were on patrol at Ormond Quay on January 9, 2021. They saw the accused in a suspicious transaction and stopped him to search him.
Kenny attempted to swallow the drugs he had but they were recovered by gardaí and found to be three deal bags of heroin, worth €90.
Kenny had 104 previous convictions, for offences including possession of drugs, theft and handling stolen property.
The incident happened while Kenny was homeless and “it’s an offence which occurred out of financial desperation”, his lawyer said.
Judge Bryan Smyth said he would take account of everything, including Kenny’s guilty plea, but he felt a custodial sentence was warranted.
He said it would have been longer but for the fact Kenny was serving another sentence.
He set recognisances in the event of an appeal.
