RTE tries to crack the unsolved murder of Michael Collins in new documentary

To mark the centenery of one of Ireland’s most revered political figures, RTE is opening the investigation that never happened as they aim to solve the mystery of Michael Collins’ murder. ‘Cold Case Collins’ aims to find out what really happened in Béal na Bláth on 22 August 1922 when the renowned freedom fighter was killed in an ambush.

Hosted by former state pathologist, Marie Cassidy, the professor will closely examine Collins’ assassination through the gathering of forensic scientists, criminal investigators and military strategists along with help from archaeologists, archivists and historians.

  • Michael Collin’s death is one of the most contested killings in Irish history, with the new docu-drama featuring an interrogation room set to shine a light and uncover the secrets behind his murder. The RTE show will air on Wednesday 24th August, at 9.35 pm.

In addition to the Cold Case Collins documentary, Nationwide are also celebrating the Cork-born revolutionary and how he “helped alter the course of modern Irish history” despite only living until the age of 32.

Broadcaster, Donal Byrne will journey through Collins’ early life and influences and learns how he became the master political strategist and organiser that he is remembered as today.

On radio, Morning Ireland will broadcast from the Munster Arms Hotel, Bandon on Friday August 19th, where Michael Collins was pictured alive for the very last time just half an hour before he was killed in the Beal na Blath ambush.
