A man and his five-year-old daughter died following the fire at a property at Killeen Heights in Tralee on 12 May 2012.
Nadine O’Brien 5 and her father Anthony O’Brien died in the blaze. He was found cradling her in the fire scene. It was passed off by guards as an accidental fire.
It is understood that earlier this year gardaí were approached by someone with new information about the blaze. This information suggested that the incident was in fact a burglary.
At the time a number of the fire a number of people had approached gardaí to say that it was a malicious blaze.
Sources have told The Journal that gardaí declared that the fire was an accident – possibly started on a couch by a stray cigarette.
The information received by investigators led them to arrest a man in June in County Cork.
Following that arrest and examination of further evidence gardaí this morning arrested two men, both in their 40s, in relation to the investigation.
Both men are currently being detained under the provisions of section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Tralee and Killarney garda stations.
