A security staff member was held at gunpoint during a terrifying cash-in-transit robbery in Dublin yesterday.

The shocking daylight robbery happened outside a convenience store and post office on New Street South around 4.15pm.

After threatening the security staff member with a suspected firearm, the thief fled with a cash box in a getaway car that was waiting nearby.

The car, described as a dark grey Volkswagen Touran, is understood to have been driven down the wrong side of the road towards Clanbrassil Street as it left the area.

No shots were fired and none of the security personnel were physically harmed during the incident.
