Galway City Centre: A person was walking down the main street; she encountered people sleeping in laneways in wet sleeping bags, only to be approached directly by a woman from Nigeria who pleaded with her to take her home as she had no place to live. What has happened in Ireland? We thought it was bad when people lived in Pre-1963 flats in large houses but at least now we can say they had a room, a bed, a shared bathroom, but now, what are we asking of people? Slumlords; it is their mentality; we thought they had disappeared but we have worse than ever now. “This slum landlord in Drogheda is looking to squeeze 22 people into this house at €500/m each”. That’s €11,000 per month. Outrageous! Change is needed urgently in Ireland.
