A solicitor censured for providing inadequate representation to a divorcee has told the legal services watchdog he cannot afford to compensate his former client.
The case, which involves Dublin solicitor Donal Taaffe, has raised issues regarding the efficiency of the disciplinary regime for lawyers and the ability of clients to recover compensation if a practitioner cannot or will not pay.
