A surgeon who was facing two separate five-month jail sentences over a string of traffic offences and a drug possession conviction, left the jurisdiction last week on the eve of his appeal hearing.
Dr Syed Waqas Ali Bukhari, who until recently worked in Cavan General Hospital, was convicted earlier this year of driving without insurance or a licence, and sentenced to five months in jail and disqualified from driving for 15 years.
