The former Premier League star came to the attention of gardai from the Burglary Response Unit as he drove at high speeds in the Longmile Road area of Crumlin, Dublin, shortly after midnight.

When cops attempted to stop the car it sped off. The vehicle then drove through Ballyfermot and on to the Cabra area of the capital before it finally stopped. It’s understood the vehicle drove through several red lights.

The footballer — who has played for Ireland — then tried to flee on foot before he was caught. When the motor he was in was brought back to Crumlin Garda Station the officers discovered €4,500 of cocaine inside the vehicle.

Another man was also in the car during the chase.

One source told The Irish Sun: “The car was identified by Gardai because it was travelling at high speeds.

“There was a chase because the car didn’t stop and it travelled through different areas.

“Two men were arrested when the car stopped.”

Cops confirmed two men were charged in connection with the incident and are to appear in court “at a later date”.
