A man allegedly threatened to shoot a customer in a city centre credit union if the teller did not give him money.

The alleged incident occurred on Monday afternoon at approximately 4pm in the credit union on St Luke’s Avenue. The alleged thief was covered head to toe in clothes with no part of his skin visible.

One source said the gunman “barged” in, pulled out a pistol and pointed it at a cashier. He began roaring at the teller to hand over cash.

The teller hid behind a screen, and the gunman tried to use the cash tray to angle the pistol at her, which didn’t work. The clink of metal was heard when the gun hit the tray.

Two customers were present at the time of the robbery. Both backed away and sat down in waiting chairs.

The teller returned to the screen and handed over a bunch of five euro notes. The bandit was not pleased and started shouting, ‘give me fifties, give me fifties’.

The gunman pointed the gun at an older female customer as the teller ran and hid behind the screen. Then he turned and pointed the gun at the other “terrified” customer’s head before he lowered his aim to the customer’s leg.

The gunman said: “I’ll shoot him in the leg, I’ll shoot him in the leg”. The teller came back with a second patch of fivers which appeared to “pacify” the gunman.

He stuffed some of the money in his pockets and the rest in his crotch. The bandit called the teller a “b*tch” before he made off on a bicycle.

It was estimated that around €300 was stolen. Dublin Live has contacted the gardai and the premises for comment.
