Republic of Ireland has welcomed over 70,000 people fleeing Ukraine. Finding accommodation is now becoming a problem but that cannot be. Too often I watch people stop in the Middle of Upper Baggot Street, often foreigners, taking a photo of the Royal City of Dublin hospital which has a most fascinating history going back over 150 years … people ought to know that it was in this hospital that doctors and nurses were trained (in the days of the British Empire) to serve at the Crimean War. Now surely, we can appeal to the powers of the HSE or whoever to get this empty hospital up and running as a centre for Ukrainian people so that they can live in an area where they are accessible to all amenities. Let us remind ourselves that we the Republic of Ireland are not members of NATO so our contribution to this WAR EFFORT in Europe should be to provide homes, as we have done over the past year, to people fleeing Ukraine.
