A dangerous driver who drove at speed and on the wrong side of the road “panicked” when he saw gardaí, a court has heard.
Aaron O’Hanlon also tested positive for having cocaine and cannabis in his system.
Judge Gerard Jones fined O’Hanlon €200, banned him from driving for four years and imposed a one-month sentence, suspended for one year.
O’Hanlon (22), of Curragh Hall Green in Tyrrelstown, admitted dangerous and uninsured driving, as well as driving under the influence of an intoxicant, on August 30, 2019.
Garda Wayne Kearney told Blanchardstown District Court he was on patrol when he saw a car being driven erratically at The Boulevard in Tyrrelstown.
Gda Kearney said he activated the blue lights and sirens on the patrol car but the vehicle failed to stop, driving at speed toward The Ward, and driving over the continuous white line in the middle of the road, before stopping at Sandyhills, St Margaret’s.
Defence solicitor Simon Fleming said O’Hanlon, a shop worker, panicked when he saw gardaí, and drove off when he should not have done.
Mr Fleming said the defendant, a father-of-one, worked in a supermarket, and was no longer driving.
