Two men ‘investigated’ in Annie McCarrick murder probe

Two men are reportedly under investigation for the murder of Annie McCarrick, who disappeared over 30 years ago.

Ms McCarrick, an American woman who was studying in Dublin, disappeared from her home on March 26, 1993, with gardaí upgrading the investigation into her disappearance from a missing person’s case to a murder investigation on the 30th anniversary.

Following several potential leads, it has been reported that the actions of two men, who previously gave statements to An Garda Síochána afterher disappearance, are being re-examined to see if there any discrepancies.

Two men are reportedly under investigation for the murder of Annie McCarrick, who disappeared over 30 years ago.

The Irish Times reports that the examination into the two men, who are now being treated as suspects, surrounds the previous statements that they gave gardaí, including an account of their movements on the day she disappeared and the day after she disappeared.

Gardaí will closely look at these men’s statements but are also investigating a number of other lines of inquiry.

Gardaí declined to comment on any specific aspects of the investigation when contacted by Extra.ie but said a number of people have contacted them following the upgrade of Annie’s disappearance to a murder case.

‘An Garda Síochána held a media briefing on the 24th March 2023 in advance of the 30th Anniversary of the disappearance and Murder investigation into the disappearance of Annie McCarrick on the 26th March 1993,’ a statement from Gardaí told Extra.ie. ‘An appeal was also made on Crimecall on Monday 27 March 2023.

‘Following those appeals, a number of members of the public have been in contact with An Garda Síochána.

As this is an ongoing criminal investigation An Garda Síochána does not comment on specific lines of investigation.’
