Ireland Murders

Ireland: The Capital of Murder in Western Europe

Gangland killings timeline

I have not included murders of a domestic nature or between families, such as Patrica O’Connor in Rathfarnham (originally from Wexford), Rose Hanrahan from Limerick in her own home (with the suspect fleeing back to his own country)… not to mention the 2 murders in Country Cork in broad daylight… what is happening in Ireland?

In the last decade we have at least 235 unsolved murders in this country.  Here is an outline of the gangland murders below.  This does not include the numbers of missing women in the last 20 years in Ireland… high profile cases like JoJo Dollard and Annie McCarrick.

With the corruption in the Gardaí now, and the scandal in Templemore, are our police force fit for purpose?

  2. It is just farcical that the Deirdre Jacob murder investigation has only been opened after 20 years of sitting on the shelf as a missing person case….

… kind of like the Russians only admitting responsibility for the 1940 Katyn massacre after 1990 … 50 years later, and therefore too late for it to be classified as a war crime. The question in our Irish case is: who in our own police force needed to be protected for 20 years?

In the USA, the ineptitude of local police precincts and corrupt states was rescued by the formation of the FBI to handle complex crimes. Assuming Ireland can rise above the failures of GSOC to establish real Gardaí accountability, we should demand the formation of a specialised police organisation to claim responsibility for the backlog of disappearances and unsolved murders.
