A retired garda who led the investigation into the murder of French woman Sophie Toscan du Plantier has initiated legal proceedings against former chief suspect Ian Bailey.
The Sunday Independent can reveal that retired chief superintendent Dermot Dwyer has sent a legal letter to Mr Bailey as well as to Cork radio station Red FM.
The legal correspondence states that the journalist-turned-poet defamed the retired senior officer during an interview with Red FM on October 28.
