Simon Bowes-Lyon, 34, confessed to forcibly entering the room of a sleeping woman in his Scottish castle while drunk, and subsequently assaulting her.
The attack is said to have lasted 20 minutes, during which time Bowes-Lyon pushed the victim onto a bed and against a wall, grabbing her breasts and attempting to push her nightgown up.© Provided by Extra.ie A cousin of Queen Elizabeth has been jailed for 10 months after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at his castle in Glamis, Scotland. The woman in question eventually managed to force Bowes-Lyon from the room.
Appearing in court in January, Bowes-Lyon, who holds the title of Earl of Strathmore and is Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin twice removed, expressed his shame at having caused ‘such distress’ to a visitor to his ancestral home.
Admitting that he had ‘drunk to excess’ on the night of the assault, Bowes-Lyon acknowledged that intoxication was ‘no excuse’ for such behaviour.© Provided by Extra.ie Simon Bowes-Lyon, 34, confessed to forcibly entering the room of a sleeping woman in his Scottish castle while drunk, and subsequently assaulting her. He said: ‘I did not think I was capable of behaving the way I did but have had to face up to it and take responsibility.
‘Over the last year, this has involved seeking and receiving professional help as well as agreeing to plead guilty as quickly as possible.’
Bowes-Lyon went on to apologise to his victim, as well as to his family, friends and colleagues for the ‘distress’ he had caused.
Fred says: Who next? Epstein comes to mind who chose to die by suicide while in prison. Add to this his friend Ghislaine Maxwell, who is also in prison – and who faces a trial which will have implications for the British Royal Family.
