A man who was arrested at the site of the anti-lockdown protest in Cork on Saturday was not a protestor, Garda confirmed to Extra.ie.
Pictures shared on social media showed the moment that a man, who was playing a drum, was arrested by a large group of Gardai on Patrick’s Street.
Patrick’s Street is the site at which protestors are expected to gather today despite calls to stop the rally due to current public health restrictions.
Gardai said that the man who was arrested before the start of the protest was a street performer who was in breach of COVID-19 regulations.
They made it clear that this arrest was not connected to the planned demonstration on the same street.

‘Gardaí implemented the 4 E’s (engage, educate, encourage and as a last resort enforce). On this occasion the male in question refused to comply with Gardaí.
