Sameer Syed, 37, of Grosvenor Lodge, Rathmines, Dublin 6 is charged with murdering his wife Seema Banu, 37, his daughter Asfira Riza, 11, and son Faizan Syed, six, at Llewellyn Court, Rathfarnham, on October 28 last year.

Counsel for the DPP Brendan Grehan SC yesterday said that the District Court had made certain orders in light of a Court of Appeal ruling but those orders no longer applied due to a change in the law. ‘There is no impediment to them being named,’ he added.

The Children (Amendment) Act 2021 was signed into law last month after a vigorous campaign by families and media to have the restrictions on identifying child murder victims lifted.
Mr Justice White set a trial date for June 15, 2022.
