Garda whistleblower John Wilson loses home to KBC Bank

John Wilson, the garda whistleblower, has failed in a Supreme Court application to prevent KBC Bank from repossessing his Co Cavan home. In December KBC won an order to seize Wilson’s home at Bleancup over arrears of €253,066, made up of a mortgage of €165,000 and two top-up loans.
Wilson applied to the Supreme Court to appeal against the order on October 7. Last week the court refused him permission to challenge the decision, made by the High Court on appeal from the Circuit Court, because he delayed too long.
In the High Court the former garda argued that he had taken the mortgage with IIB Homeloans, not KBC Bank Ireland. He suggested that at the time of the mortgage, IIB had no banking licence.
