A woman had been walking in an area between Patrick View and Patrick Street in Drogheda Town at approximately 3pm when she was approached by a man.

Gardai said that the man allegedly ‘pulled the trigger’ of the gun as he pointed it at the woman, but no shot was discharged and he fled the scene.
Armed Gardai responded to a report about the incident and a man, who is aged in his late teens, was arrested nearby at approximately 4pm.

A Garda spokesperson said: ‘Gardaí in Drogheda have arrested a man following an attempted armed robbery in Drogheda town on Monday afternoon.
‘Shortly after 3pm on Monday, June 14, 2021 a woman was out walking between Park View and Patrick Street in Drogheda town, when she was approached by a man who demanded money from her a number of times.

‘Gardaí were called and attended the scene, and assistance was provided by the armed support unit.

‘Separately Gardaí carried out a search in the vicinity of the attempted robbery and a black imitation firearm was located at Park View. This was seized by Gardaí. This firearm will be sent for forensic analysis.
‘The man in his late teens continues to be detained at Drogheda Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.’
